A “Bag of Marbles” is another one of those WWII movies that invariably makes me grateful that we in the United States have never lived under a fascist regime … and now I have to say “so far.” It’s that caveat that makes this story still relevant for our perilous time, a few weeks before an election that may decide how much further in that direction we’ll go.

It’s a joyful and tragic story, based on Joseph Joffo’s Holocaust memoir, about a beautiful French family who had to split up and flee their separate ways in order to escape the Nazis.

It’s especially good viewing for pandemic shut-ins. It will make you feel you’ve used your time doing something worthwhile.
