Iran War Was Planned in 1996 Neocon “Clean Break” Strategy Paper
“US planned to “attack and destroy the governments in seven countries in five years—starting with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.”
In case you are confused by Trump’s shifting and contradictory justifications for his unprovoked war with Iran, here’s Professor Jeffrey Sach’s explanation:
“In 1996, Netanyahu and his American advisors devised a “Clean Break” strategy. They advocated that Israel would not withdraw from the Palestinian lands captured in the 1967 war in exchange for regional peace. Instead, Israel would reshape the Middle East to its liking. Crucially, the strategy envisioned the US as the main force to achieve these aims—waging wars in the region to dismantle governments opposed to Israel’s dominance over Palestine. The US was called upon to fight wars on Israel’s behalf.
“The Clean Break strategy was effectively carried out by the US and Israel after 9/11. As NATO Supreme Commander General Wesley Clark revealed, soon after 9/11, the US planned to “attack and destroy the governments in seven countries in five years—starting with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.”

And Badar, the foreign minister of Oman, tells him that the Iranians offered Donald Trump a much better deal than Barack Obama got in 2015. The expectation being that Trump would then say, “Oh, look what an idiot Barack Obama is. Look what a genius I am.” and embrace the deal, which included inspections, a renewed promise NOT to make nuclear weapons, which the Ayatollas have said all the way along because they regard nuclear weapons as unholy, and American oil companies can come back into Iran.”
“And then Donald Trump turns around and begins bombing. From the point of view of the government in Tehran, how else would you see us except liars, cheats, and perhaps even savages? This is not conducting yourself in any kind of responsible way. And Trump continues to tell these fantastic lies: You know, “Iran is the biggest sponsor of state terrorism in the world.” No, it’s not. Saudi Arabia is. And by the way, who is Donald all comfy and friendly with and his family’s getting rich off of? The Saudis. This is just appalling. But not only is there no legal basis or factual basis for what we are doing. The Iranians don’t have nuclear weapons. The Iranians do not have ballistic missiles that can reach the US. They do have some that can reach Eastern Europe, parts of Europe. they’re not a direct threat to us and the president of the United States only has authority to take defensive actions without Congress. The Constitution is crystal clear about this and look where we are. And this is spiraling out of control, which is exactly, by the way, what the leaders of a number of Middle East nations, the Saudis, the Qataris, the Emiratis, told the Trump administration would happen if they attacked Iran.”
