Local Chambers of Commerce Not Part of U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Because of the controversy concerning foreign funding of U.S. Chamber of Commerce political attack ads, I sent email to Mary Ann Mueller, asking about the relationship — if any — between our local Chambers and the U.S. Chamber.
Mary Ann is the President/CEO of the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce.
Here’s her reply:
Thanks for your email Don.
Local Chambers of Commerce, for the most part, have their own Mission and Program of Work. The Chambers within western Nevada County are not members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and our Chambers do not have PACs Political Action Committees.
The Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber is an advocate for businesses within our community, looking at local and regional issues that could have a negative affect to businesses. We disseminate information, provide seminars, promote and market chamber member businesses and host networking events. In addition, we operate a tourism and visitor center in downtown Grass Valley.
We do not endorse candidates and very often take no position on issues, such as Prop. 23. We are however, holding a debate on Prop. 23 October 28th with representatives from both sides speaking to the Proposition. This will be a moderated debate.
Hope this helps, if you have further questions or input please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Mary Ann
